May 23 Daily Catch!!!

The weather was calling for 20kt of wind out of the east and 9' swells.  We decided to give it a shot, as the day progressed the wind layed down quite a bit.  In case the wind picked up we chose to fish closer to home which isn't always a bad thing; considering less travel time and more line soaking.  We arrived at our first location, slow pick but a few nice fish were landed, ranging from 30lb-75lb.  Around 2pm we made a move back towards one of our spring hot spots to catch the incoming tide in 271' of water.  Second spot payed off, the halibut bite was a lot better and we were able to pull it off with nice halibut and a few shy of a limit of Yellow eye rock fish.  We were getting huge take downs on our cod heads that were soaking but managed to lose all 3 big fish.  "You never seem to lose the small ones."  Grant from Anchorage fought one over #200lb for about 10 min before the fish spit the hook and dove back down to the bottom.  Weather cleared up by 3pm sunshine and light winds out of the East.  Turned out to be a great day of fishing!!!  Next trip is this Thursday, we will be participating in the Combat Tournament...Lets see if we can honor our armed forces by catching them a big one.... FISH ON!
