May 26th - Savage Turkey Bite

The weather has been a bit shaky this spring, but we were able to find a window to get to where we wanted.  We left the dock with a full boat and headed in the Easterly direction.  We arrived at the first spot  just in time to catch the tail end of the Ebb tide.  Within 5 minutes of dropping our lines we had already hooked our first halibut, a solid 30 pounds.  Hog hunting can be a slow daunting experience that is sometimes boring- but this day was a bit different.  The bite continued to pick up through the slack tide, landing ten fish ranging between 50-100lbs.  Good thing we picked up bullets prior to today's trip!
Unlike most days the Halibut were hitting on a variety of bait.  Salmon, herring, and jigs were all effective so these fish were hungry.  We picked up about twenty fish at the first spot all over 20lbs.  This was a full day Halibut trip so after about 4 hours at our first spot we pulled anchor and moved towards the bio-mass of Halibut about 1/2 hr away.  It took us about 45 min to get the bite going but once the fish located the boat it was fish on everywhere.  A terrific start to the 2012 season! It was memorial day so we figured it would be a good opportunity to hang some of our catch at the dock.

Thanks for choosing Alaska Northern Outfitters as your #1 choice for deep sea fishing in Alaska!

FISH ON!!!
