Blue Skies and Yellow Water- June 4th

The weather for today's trip was amazing. Blue skies and no wind made for a smooth ride out to the fishing grounds.  We were on the hunt for big fish at Montague Island, however the small tides this week seemed to have lured in the dogfish (sand shark) and made it almost impossible to fish in most of the grounds.

The first spot we landed on was swarming with sharks and within the first 5 minutes everyone on the boat had one thrashing on the surface.  Immediately we fired up the boat and drove a few more miles into the shallows hoping to avoid the sharks for the sake of saving bait and gear.  Still we encountered some but we were able to get the halibut biting as soon as the tide started to move some water around.  We weren't able to convince any big ones to bite but still had decent size fish.

This spring, the north gulf coast has been coated in pollen turning the surface of the water yellow.  I've never seen it in this dense concentration.  Overall it was a solid day of fishing with lots of action and sunshine, so we really can't complain!
