Variety Pack at Montague Island- July 17, 2014

The Sea Quest left the dock on a full day Halibut exclusive.  On our full day single specie trips we target large halibut for most of the day and finish up at what we call a "chicken hole" to try and catch everyone a limit of fish.  We dropped our anchor on a jagged rock pile at the end of the outgoing tide.  The fishing was hot as soon as our lines hit the bottom.  We nailed a giant Lingcod on a jig followed by a bunch of big Black Bass.  Right before the current died off, one of the young ladies on the boat hooked into a 60 pound Halibut on a piece of herring.

The incoming tide started at about 11:30 and as soon we picked up some current we hit another 50lb Halibut as well as a few more Lings and 6 plump Halibut.  It was a great morning filled with lots of action and nice fish.  The deckhands and I were able to hook a few Silver Salmon that were filleted instantly and the scraps were used for bait.  To top it all off two clients hooked into and successfully landed a 20lb and 22lb King Salmon.  Both of which were hooked on circle hooks near the bottom and each happened to have King stamps...Score!

The past few days have been exceptional weather and tomorrow is showing that the calm seas should hold up through the afternoon.  Saturday, however, is calling for a bit of SW wind, hopefully it won't get too lumpy.  The fishing at the Island has been great and big fish have been hitting the dock left and right.  What a season so far! We have arrived to the halfway point  of our season and we're looking forward to the Silver Salmon to come in full swing. Any day now... FISH ON!

Here some photos from the past few days' success:
