Miles and I went to the Russian River yesterday to catch some Sockeye, we were not necessarily after the whole salmon but needed the carcasses. After offering free filleting in the parking lot we were able to acquire a few salmon heads and bellies for our trip today. The hour and a half drive in addition to 4 hours of Reds fishing paid off. After dropping anchor we immediately hooked up with a few turkeys and some smaller halibut. We were able to sit through the entire outgoing tide, catching fish every couple of minutes.
We caught a few in the 60lb-88lb range and just fell ounces shy of the daily derby winner of 88lbs. The salmon carcasses, jigs, and regular herring worked equally well today for there was no bait of preference for the halibut. The weather started picking up on our way home, and tomorrow's forecast is looking about the same. NE 25 for Thursday, lumpy but fishable. Thanks for coming out guys great day of fishing and a fun bunch of people. See you next year. FISH ON!!!
